After spending one week in hospitals, escaped prisoner and convicted murderer  David Sweat  was released from the Albany Medical Center this morning and taken to the Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus, New York, officials said. Five Points is a maximum-security facility, the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said today. Sweat was released from Albany Medical Center at 3:05 a.m., the Department of Corrections said, but the details of his transportation to Five Points were not released because of security reasons. Sweat will be in the Five Points infirmary during his first 24 hours at the prison, the Department of Corrections said. Sweat will then be housed in a single cell in the Five Points Special Housing Unit. His cell will be in the prison's 23-hour confinement unit, the Department of Corrections said. Yenagoa—The kidnapped wife of former Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly and ex-Acting governor of the state, Madam Martha Nestor Binabo, has regained her freedom. The 48-year-old woman was handed over to a negotiator at Buguma area of Rivers State in the early hours of yesterday, according to a family source. While some denied knowledge of payment of ransom, others claimed that N8.2m was paid to secure her freedom. The kidnappers were said to have warned the family not to involve the police in any rescue effort. Madam Binabo was allegedly released with a transport fare of N18,000 and a bag of fish. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, said he was yet to be briefed on the development but a family source confirmed her release, saying “she was well taken care of by the kidnappers.” It was learned that the kidnappers gave her N18,000 as transport and a big bag of fresh fish for her family. 4th of July A young man who was drinking and celebrating the Fourth of July tried to launch a firework off the top of his head, fatally injuring himself, authorities said Sunday. Devon Staples and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks Saturday night in the backyard of a friend's home in the small eastern Maine city of Calais, said Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety. Staples, 22, of Calais, placed a fireworks mortar tube on his head and set it off, he said. The firework exploded, killing Staples instantly, McCausland said.   His death is the first fireworks fatality in Maine since the state legalized fireworks on Jan. 1, 2012, authorities said.   Calais is on the Canadian border near New Brunswick.   State fire marshals were also investigating several other Fourth of July fireworks accidents involving injuries in Friendship, Jefferson, Lebanon and Woodstock. A pastor, a woman and her 2 children were killed after a male suicide bomber attacked a Redeemed Christian Church of God parish in the Jigawa area of Potiskum, Yobe state this morning June 5th. Eyewitnesses say the suicide bomber forced his way into the church at about  10am  while the church service was ongoing.  Confirming the incident, the Yobe state Police Public Relations Officer ASP Toyin Gbadegesin said  “A male suicide bomber at about  10 o’clock  this morning detonated a bomb at the Redeemed Church Jigawa area in Potiskum killing five persons including the suicide bomber" - he said An eyewitness, Garba Manu while giving an account of what happened said “I saw when the bomber alighting from a motorised rickshaw and entering the church and as soon as he entered a loud explosion ripped through the church which is under construction.                                  Marilyn Hartman CHICAGO — A woman who has repeatedly tried to sneak aboard airplanes has been arrested in  Chicago  twice in as many days, the latest incident while trying to get through security without a ticket at O'Hare International Airport. Chicago police said 63-year-old Marilyn Hartman did not have a ticket on Saturday afternoon when she was detained at airport security. She was charged with criminal trespassing and with violating her bond on previous charges. The incident was only one day after her arrest at Midway International Airport where she had a valid ticket but caused a disturbance on board the plane and was escorted off. Chicago police spokesman Thomas Sweeney says Hartman was charged Friday with misdemeanor reckless conduct. Hartman had just been released from jail on Thursday, telling reporters she felt "free as a bird." She'd been arrested after trying to get past security at O'Hare and Midway airport

At least 14 people were injured Saturday when a deck collapsed at a North Carolina beach house, officials said. According to Emerald Isle Police are reporting that members of a family were a deck overlooking the ocean preparing to take a family photo shortly before 7 p.m. when the structure collapsed. First Responders from Emerald Isle arrived on scene within minutes and began treating and triaging patients, police said. "About a 12-by-12 section of deck collapsed, about ten to twelve feet. We transported fourteen patients from that collapse," Emerald Isle Fire Chief Bill Walker said. Walker later added that there were about 20 people on the deck at the time. Due to the number of casualties involved, neighboring agencies were called in to assist in transporting and dealing with the victims.  Indian  Beach, Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores and Western Carteret all sent Fire and EMS units to assist, while Broad and Gales Creek Fire Departments were also dispatched

The single-engine Piper PA18 lost engine power shortly after 3 p.m. and landed on Tamarack State Beach in Carlsbad, Federal Aviation Administration officials said. The pilot of the plane suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to the Carlsbad Police Department. One person on the beach was also reportedly injured in the crash landing.
