20 die in Kogi auto crash
No fewer than 20 persons killed yesterday morning in a road accident that occurred along Lokoja-Abuja highway.
It was also gathered that 22 cows died in the accident
According to an eyewitness account, the accident was caused by a roadblock mounted by armed robbers along the Irepeni axis of the highway.
Checks revealed that a luxury bus with registration number KRD 799 LC, which was coming from Lagos to Abuja suddenly, ran into the roadblock mounted by the armed bandits. As the bus was trying to manoeuvre its way, a truck with registration number, KTN 711 YZ loaded with cows rammed into it, killing several people on the spot.
The impact of the accident, it was observed chopped off the front row of the truck while the front seven row of the luxury bus was grimly compacted with most of the passengers that sat therein dead, including the driver of the bus.
Daily Sun correspondent, who was at the scene at about 8am yesterday saw scores of corpses with mangled bodies been conveyed to the hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
One of the victims, who simply identified herself as Chinyere, told Daily Sun that she lost her newly wedded husband in the accident.
No fewer than six bodies had their heads completely severed, as FRSC officers, the police and sympathisers gathered some severed human parts into bags which were conveyed along with the corpses to the mortuary.
Also, about 22 cows were counted dead at the scene of the accident while the surviving ones were seen scattered around the scene of accident.
It was observed that the accident caused a serious gridlock along the highway as motorists had to pass through the bush path to negotiate their way out of the gridlock.
When contacted, the state sector of the FRSC confirmed the accident, but declined to give the actual figure of casualties.
