Mystery surrounds woman’s murder in Hollywood
Baffled Los Angeles cops canvassed a popular Tinseltown tourist area on Tuesday, scrambling for any clues into the seemingly senseless murder of a woman walking down the street.
Carrie Jean Melvin, 30, and her boyfriend were strolling on Sunset Boulevard near McCadden Place just after 10 p.m. Sunday when a man walked up behind her, pointed a shotgun and opened fire, police said.
The suspect jumped into a black sedan and got away. The boyfriend was not injured in the brutal attack and stayed with his mortally wounded gal pal, police said.
“We’ve interviewed the boyfriend, there’s no indication that they had any idea there were enemies [of Melvin], that she would be targeted, so at this point, we just don’t know,” said LAPD Detective John Skaggs.
There were apparently no words exchanged between Melvin and her killer.
“At this time it appears to be a random act of violence and there’s no known motive for what happened,” Skaggs said.
It’s a complete mystery why anyone would want to kill the well-liked Melvin, who lived with her boyfriend in an apartment building on McCadden.
The two were headed for a bite to eat when the gunfire erupted.
“We just don’t know,” Skaggs said. “On the one hand, she didn’t have any known enemies. On the other hand, it looks like it was directed toward her.”
