Man builds soundproof basement filled with kids' toys, police say.....

Police in Norway arrested a man in a child abduction investigation after discovering he built a soundproof room in his basement.

The room, filled with toys and a bed, was discovered after police became suspicious of the 40-year-old man.

The lockable downstairs den built at his home is decked out with a teddy bear and kids' books, and the bed has a Super Mario bed cover, officers said.

Police say the walls were carpeted, making it almost totally soundproof, and the room also contained a TV and toilet, reported the Daily Mirror.

"It is worrying, but we have not uncovered anything during the investigation to suggest that there has been a criminal offense in the room or on the man's address," said lawyer Julie Dalsveen, of the Vestoppland police district.

Police also said they found a truncheon, a Taser and child pornography in the man’s house.

When he was arrested in May, police found the unidentified man rented a car and drove it to the homes of children in Sweden and Norway.

Dalsveen said the accused found names of children on social media and drove his rental car to them "up to 50 times" in the period 2011 to 2014.

She added that any criminal offenses related to the addresses have not been revealed.

"Some people abuse information that is on the Internet," Dalsveen said. "It is important that parents consider this and think about what they are doing."

The man has been released from custody and is awaiting trial.
