NYPD officer with blood alcohol level 5 times the legal limit charged with drunken driving: prosecutors

An NYPD highway cop has been arrested after prosecutors found his blood alcohol content was more than five times the legal limit when he plowed his car into a guardrail, officials said Saturday.
John Finley, 45, was charged with aggravated drunken driving on Friday for a booze-fueled crash on Staten Island, prosecutors said.The 25-year NYPD veteran had a mind-boggling BAC level of .430% — more than five times legal limit of .08%, officials said.
Finley was alone in his 2009 GMC Envoy when he rammed it into a guardrail on the West Shore Expressway near Meredith Ave. about 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 8 — three days before his 45th birthday, police sources said.
A bottle of Georgi Vodka was found inside the SUV, officials said.
He was so pie-eyed drunk that he was "unintelligible in speech," according to court documents.
The Staten Island D.A.'s office declined to prosecute at the time because they were waiting for results on an analysis of Finley's blood, which was drawn after the crash, officials said.
The results were eye-popping.
Having a .430% BAC score is comparable to a 140-pound man downing 14 drinks within an hour, medical studies show. A score that high could also lead to alcoholic poisoning and even death, officials said.
Finley, who was suspended from duty after the crash, was released without bail after his Friday arraignment. He is due back in Staten Island criminal court Nov. 4.
Attempts to reach his attorney were unsuccessful early Saturday.
Ironically, Finley and a fellow cop sued a drunken driver they pulled over for putting up a fight and injuring them.
Finley and Police Officer Henry Granda claimed they suffered extensive shoulder injuries in a fight with Pavel Krut when they pulled him over for drunken driving in 2012, according to the Staten Island Advance.
Both officers said they required surgery after the fracas.
Krut, who was 20 at the time of his arrest and thus too young to legally drink, was convicted of assault, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated, officials said.

I The Nigerian Football Federation has sacked Stephen Keshi as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The termination of his appointment is contained in a statement released by NFF Executive Committee today Saturday July 4th. The statement in part reads; "Having thoroughly reviewed the reports/findings of the NFF Disciplinary Committee and NFF Technical and Development Committee, as well as having reviewed the actions and inactions of Mr. Stephen Keshi, in the performance of his duties as Super Eagles’ Head Coach.
