Post-rehab, John Stamos feels his best in 10 years

John Stamos’ DUI wasn’t just an embarrassment, it was a turning point.
In an interview with Details, the 52-year-old star of the upcoming Fox sitcom “Grandfathered” talks about his June arrest and month-long stint in rehab.
“You know, I’ve had a rough year with my mom dying, so it all came to a head, and it was a turning point,” the actor told the magazine. “You either continue on that path — and some of it’s fun, but a lot of it’s not — or there’s this other thing, this golden opportunity sitting there with all this work and all this goodwill that you have going for you. That’s the key.”
In June, Stamos was arrested and cited with driving under the influence in Beverly Hills.
The actor, who became famous for his role in as Uncle Jesse in the family sitcom “Full House,” said the decision to check himself into a residential rehab program was a good one.
“I feel better than I’ve felt in a decade,” he said.
The actor also said that while he might be old enough to play a grandfather on television, he still has some growing up to do, which led to some public struggles earlier this year.
“It’s not as much fun, but you have to be responsible,” he said. “It’s about discipline, which I lost for a while. Part of being undisciplined for the past five or six years is that I didn’t work as much as it looked like. I had some high-profile jobs, like a Super Bowl commercial or a few episodes of ‘Glee,’ but there was a lot of downtime, and that can be, obviously, dangerous.”
“Grandfathered” premieres on Sept. 29.
